Friday, August 10 - RTA Community Day

Join The Children’s Museum and the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) to explore bus safety, fire safety, and explore community safety vehicles! Children will be able to touch police cars, fire trucks, and RTA transit buses! Children will also get a chance to visit with Transit Police K-9 teams, get fingerprinted, and jump in our bounce house!

Lake Metroparks’ new Glow-a-Palooza is a celebration of Wild Things that “GLOW” BUMP in the night and encourage us to discover the wonders of nature at night. Everyone is welcome to wear glow-in-the-dark, black light and /or light-up clothing! New this year is the “Things that GLOW Bump in the Night” discovery zone. Participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor adventures in a carnival-type atmosphere. These hands-on activities are sure to shed some light on the secrets of fireflies, stars, nighttime wildlife, and more!

Kids can channel their inner artist and make mud-pie masterpieces every Tuesday in the Hershey Children's Garden. Whether decorated with flowers or shaped like a dinosaur, every mud pie deserves recognition.  

After making mud pies, you can cool off with an ice-cold, refreshing float. The Garden serves up root beer floats and Orange Crush floats every Tuesday afternoon on Geis Terrace for kids and adults.

Last Stop Willoughby begins at 8 am with the Willoughby Outdoor Market. Downtown Willoughby’s retail merchants will kick off a sidewalk sale featuring a variety of merchandise. Last Stop Willoughby will feature ”The Taste of Willoughby.” The participating downtown Willoughby restaurants will set up shop outside on the sidewalks outside their doors and serve food. A ballot contest will determine who reigns supreme in a “People’s Choice” competition. Flip Flop Wreath

Macaroni Crafts

Flip flops are a summertime essential and they come in so many colors and patterns.  We used flip flops we purchased at the dollar store to make this colorful and fun wreath perfect for summertime!  Thanks to my cousin Kimberly for the idea and materials and my mother-in-law Bonnie for her creative talent and time!

Materials (makes 2 wreaths):

  • Flip flops in different colors and patterns; we used 6 different solid colors
  • Hot glue gun or E-6000 adhesive
  • Something for the decoration on top; we used raffia and a seashell ...
