Fun in the Mega Cavern in Louisville, Kentucky

By Jenny Steadman August 24, 2016
I was offered discounted admission prices in exchange for a review. Opinions are completely my own.

My husband and I just had our 10th wedding anniversary. It's definitely something to celebrate! But, it's the end of the summer and we've had some pretty massive family trips. We wanted something close by and easy on the budget. The plan was to drop our kids off at Grandma and Grandpa's in Cincinnati but, then what? That's when we learned about the Mega Cavern in Louisville, Kentucky

Just an hour and a half south of Cincinnati, we did something we never dreamed of doing - ropes and zip line courses in the Mega Cavern. We decided to spend most of the day there and started with the Mega Quest, a high and low ropes course that left us feeling challenged, laughing and will be a lasting memory. This is great for families (ages 5 and up) because of the high and low courses. I'm not much for heights but you are securely strapped in and I never once felt like I was in danger of falling. It takes about 30 minutes to get from one end of the course to the other at each height, but your admission is a 3-hour pass so you have plenty of time to do as much as you want!

I must admit, while the Mega Quest was a blast, Mega Zips takes the cake. Neither of us had been on a zip line course before so we weren't sure what to expect. This is a fully-guided tour. Each group has two tour guides who make sure everyone is safely strapped in harness and do all of the hard work for you: getting you on and off the lines as well as stopping you at the end of each line. I felt completely safe and this made it easier for me to have a thrilling good time! With six underground zip lines (including a dual racing line at the end) and two suspension bridges, this is something to never forget. Meant for ages 7 and up (must be between 55 and 285 pounds), this is definitely a thrill for the whole family!

It was a fun and safe way for us to step out of our comfort zones together. I would recommend it to anyone.

There is more fun at the Mega Cavern we didn't do. The Mega Tram and Mega Bike Park will be on our list for next time. We can't wait to take our family back!
