Review & Giveaway: Justin Robert's Jungle Gym
Grammy-nominated artist will be at the Grog Shop!
To a new parents, wading through lists of children's music to find something both you and your little one will enjoy seems daunting. There is so much out there!
Enter Justin Roberts.
I came across a poster at Heinen's last week for his show at the Grog Shop. I came home and found this video for "Willy Was a Whale" on YouTube and had to find out more.
USA Today calls him, "The Paul McCartney of children's music, he's fun and fresh." And they are right. The Parents' Choice Foundation gave his new CD, Jungle Gym, a Gold Award. I received a copy of the album in the mail on Monday and I've listened to it at least half-a-dozen times, by myself!
With the indie sound that you know and love, Justin's latest CD ascends through the collective memories of childhood. I found myself bobbing my head and moving my shoulders and then all of the sudden realized he is signing about playing duck, duck, goose and going trick or treat. The song "Gym Class Parachute" and "Obsessed with Truck" are two of my favorites as well as "Never Getting Lost."
The beauty of Justin's lyrics are that they aren't just for kids. While it is all from the child's perspective, these are all things that we, as former children, can relate to. They are all memories we have from childhood (fire drills really were cool in elementary school, right?!) and with pounding drums, vintage electric guitars, strange and fanciful time changes, soaring vocals and elegant French horns, you'll start dancing, too.
