Decrease your White Flour intake!

January 6, 2011

Highly processed white flour (alias "enriched wheat flour" or "wheat flour") is missing the two most nutritious and fiber-rich parts of the seed: the outside bran layer and the germ (embryo).  You can replace white flour with a combination of whole grain flours!

As a general rule, half of the white flour in any recipe can be replaced with whole wheat flour. The rest of the white flour can be replaced with almond flour, soy flour, ground old-fashioned oats or ground flax seeds. Experimentation is important when learning to bake without using white flour; sometimes the best recipes are discovered by accident. Below is one we would like to share with you!

Pancakes without flour?  YUP!  You can ground oats in a food processor or food blender until you have desired texture of course flour.
