During National Diabetes Awareness Month, the Lake County YMCA is encouraging residents in Lake County to learn their risks for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes and to take preventive steps to potentially reduce their chances of developing the disease.
“As one of the leading community-based charities committed to improving the health of our community, the Y wants everyone to understand their risk for prediabetes and steps to take to avoid developing type 2 diabetes,” said Margaret Warner, Senior Healthy Living Director, Lake County YMCA. “Developing type 2 diabetes not only puts a tremendous strain on our health care system but impacts the lives of millions of people and their families each year.”
Your Lake County Y is helping to improve health through THE YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program. This is a CDC approved curriculum lead by a well-trained Y Lifestyle Coach, who guides the group along the path toward a healthier lifestyle.
• Eat fruits and vegetables every day.
• Aim for whole grains with every meal.
• Choose water to drink instead of beverages with added sugar.
