Summer Influencer Boot Camp at The University of Akron

High school students are invited to apply for a brand-new Summer Influencer Boot Camp. This week-long, in-person day camp is hosted by the School of Communication at The University of Akron.

Participants going into grades 9-12 will work directly with communication faculty to develop the skills needed to become a content creator or influencer.

What to Expect:

Students will take advantage of the School of Comm.’s multiple production facilities, work with award-winning faculty and experience much of what the University of Akron and the city have to offer.

The week will include field trips and activities with many opportunities for creating content. Participants’ work will be presented at the culmination of the week to showcase to family, friends, and the UA community.

Upon completion of this one-of-a-kind camp you will be able to:

  1. Create a content plan including branding and promotion for an influencer media property.
  2. Explain the FCC guidelines and ethics surrounding being a professional influencer.
  3. Produce a multimedia product that showcases their personal brand and influencer topic.
  4. Accurately assess the success of their media property relative to the industry.

Camp dates: June 24-28, 2024
Deadline to apply: Monday, May 20
Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday (day camp)
Cost: $250

  • A non-refundable $50 deposit is required at the time of application.
  • Lunch is provided for all participants.
  • A select number of scholarships are available.
  • Fees are not refundable after Monday, June 24.
